Plan your vegetable garden
Draw your beds to scale and add your crops. The planner shows how many plants fit, when to sow each one and which crops grow well together.

How to use it
- Set the bed size. Enter the width and length, and choose whether to plant in squares, blocks or rows.
- Add crops. Each crop goes in the first free space, on the next date it can be sown or planted out.
- Move and resize. Drag a crop to move it, or drag its corner to resize it. The arrow keys move the selected crop.
- Check the warnings. A crop marked ! has a problem, such as a bad neighbour, a risk of frost or the wrong time of year. Tap it to see why, and a better date if there is one.
- Move through the year. The date slider shows what's in the bed on any day, so you can see when ground comes free for the next crop.
What it checks
The planner uses the same crop data as the VegLog app: spacing, sowing times, hardiness and companions for 114 crops.
- Neighbours. Crops within 15 cm of each other are checked against each other's companions, so basil goes by tomatoes and onions stay away from beans.
- Frost. Tender crops such as tomatoes, courgettes and basil get a warning if they go out before your last frost.
- Timing. A crop sown or planted more than two weeks outside its usual time gets a warning and a better date.
- Spacing. Plants closer than 70% of their usual spacing get a warning, and so does a patch too small for one plant.
- Rotation. A crop that follows the same family on the same ground, such as kale after cabbage, gets a warning and the year that ground is clear.
Questions
Is this garden planner free?
Yes. There's no sign-up and no ads, and you can draw as many beds as you like. It can't save plans, so print yours before you close the page, or save it in the VegLog app.
How do I save my garden plan?
This page can't save plans. Print yours, or use VegLog for iPhone and iPad, which saves every bed and reminds you when to sow.
Does it work for raised beds and allotments?
Yes. Plant a raised bed in 30 cm (1 ft) squares or blocks, or an allotment in rows. Enter the size in metres or feet and the planner spaces each crop and counts the plants.
Where do the sowing dates come from?
Each crop's sowing and planting times are set in weeks from your last spring frost and first autumn frost, as in the VegLog app. Pick your area or enter your own frost dates, and the dates change to match.
